CHINO HILLS—The Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SS.CC) will end its leadership of St. Paul the Apostle parish in Chino Hills after 28 years, effective January 2015.

 When the parish was established in 1986, then diocesan Bishop Phillip Straling asked the SS.CCs to assume its pastoral care. The Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary are, in fact, the first religious order ever to minister in the Diocese of San Bernardino, going all the way back to San Salvador parish in Colton in the 1840s.

INDIO—Bishop Gerald Barnes joined the parish community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Indio on June 26 to celebrate an effort of hope and collaboration. 

 On the eve of the parish’s feast day Bishop Barnes came to bless a new tabernacle, monstrance and ciborium. The tabernacle was replaced after the original was stolen during a series of burglaries at the parish in February. The gold-plated tabernacle was worth more than $20,000.

UPLAND—St. Joseph Parish, Upland will host its first blessing of liturgical musicians on the eve of the feast of St. Cecilia, Nov. 21. The blessing will take place at the 7 p.m. Mass which will celebrate St. Cecilia. 

 Carlo Argotti, director of music at the parish, hopes musicians from all over the diocese will participate.

 Recalling the past and looking to the future, parishioners at St. Patrick Parish, Moreno Valley and Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, San Bernardino celebrated anniversaries in August. 

 St. Patrick Parish, Moreno Valley celebrated its 25th anniversary with a weekend-long celebration Aug. 22 -24. The celebration began with its “One Voice. One Faith” concert on Aug. 22.

FONTANA—This spring members of Genesis, the youth group at St. Mary parish, Fontana, along with Father  Al Utzig, brought in some goat and cow manure, turned over the soil, and planted 38 Russian Mammoth sunflowers.
