 Adagio, slowly and quietly, the violin engages the audience, softly accompanied by the piano, revealing the story of Thais, the most alluring and worldly woman of 4th century Thebes, as told in French composer Jules Massenet’s opera. The much loved “Meditation” interlude reveals Thais’ struggle to reject her life of opulence and sin and to accept God and a life of grace. 

SAN DIEGO—Bishop Cirilo Flores of San Diego passed away the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 6, at the city’s Nazareth House, accompanied by family and friends.

 A man who traced his roots to the city of Corona in the Diocese of San Bernardino, Bishop Flores was 66 years old.

SAN BERNARDINO—Community members, clergy and city officials took to the streets of downtown San Bernardino on Sept. 14, chanting “Let’s stop violence! Let’s make peace!” 

 Among the community members was Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral parishioner Linda Miers, mother of slain daughters Michelle Miers, 26, and Melanie Miers, 16. She, along with family and friends, carried pictures of her daughters as she joined the others in the march. 

SAN BERNARDINO—With voter participation spiraling to record low numbers in the two counties of the Diocese of San Bernardino and an important national election approaching, an effort is underway to increase voting among Catholic and other faith communities here.

INDIO—As he sat in the pew at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Sept. 24 Edward Price might have felt something was a little out of whack. After all, he usually has a much more hands on role at Mass, serving as a sacristan and coordinator of sacristans at the parish.
