On March 7, the diocesan Department of Life Dignity and Justice celebrated its annual International Women’s Day event with the theme: Accelerating Actions! Women of the diocese gathered to listen to a keynote address by Ursula Hinkson about the challenges and struggles of women in current political, financial, educational and social spheres. They also heard talks by Jacob Escobedo - about the spiritual, physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of women - and Sister Teresa Maher, CPPS, on societal and church traditions that seem to slow the achievement of women’s full potential and involvement in public life. After the presentations, there was an open session for attendees to provide ideas, input and their own personal stories, providing testimony of women rising above societal and family challenges.
